Here’s to 2017, the year you reach your dreams.

The dreams of less stress, more happiness – and having the freedom to enjoy life.

Yes, the same dream that happens every year – but I’m going to make sure this year IS the year…

How? Call it what you want to call it, but I’d say Psychology is the best description.

The same psychology that’s been tested in every aspect of life, but the same psychology that continues to work.

I never used to like this term, mainly because of the funny looks that I got. But now I’ve learned that I enjoy that look, because I know it doesn’t last long (the smile of breaking through always helps).

And here’s how:

The Concept of Business Psychology

As an aspiring business owner, you realize that the concept of business is simple. All you do is make more money than you spend, and that’s really about it…

But it’s always easier said than done, so why is this?

Is it “just part of business”, or is it from other things that you’ve been carrying around your entire life?

Like focusing on the negatives? And don’t take that the wrong way, it’s how we’re built. But that doesn’t mean you’re stuck that way.

Okay, this is usually where the crazy look starts to come in – so let’s get to the point.

The most common symptom of this is the “I can’t” syndrome.

You’ve probably even seen it a few times…

Like the friend who can never go out because they don’t have money…

Or the Mom who can’t have fun anymore because of her kids…

And then everybody knows that one person who can’t get farther in life because they don’t have the resources to do so…

Understand what I mean now? I hope so, because it’s everywhere. Here’s why it happens, and here’s how you can fix it.

Powerful (Business) Psychology

So right now you’re slowly starting to realize that you’ve said something similar to the examples that I’ve given…and you’re probably spending some time fighting off these thoughts…

Counteracting them with typical “canned” responses like “I wasn’t born with money”, or “I don’t have a college degree”….

And this is the point where I’ll help you stop the canned responses, and start the successful responses…..

So let’s start with the why.

Why do you have these canned responses? Because you’ve been trained to become a “martyr“.

And to get the full effect of this article, please take a quick second to understand what martyr means. This word usually triggers a different type of understanding than the actual definition. (Hint: This isn’t a religious blog)

Okay, back to the story. What’s your definition of a martyr?

Your definition is going to be a little different than everybody else, but in plain english – it’s Anybody Who Can’t Do X Because of Y.

And here’s why that mentality is dangerous:

The psychology of a martyr is that they can’t do something (X) because of that (Y), and our subconscious mind (naturally) believes that things must get worse before they get better.

This causes us to do crazy things, like not pursuing our dreams (such as becoming an entrepreneur).

And remember, you’ll never know this until somebody tells you. Think about it, you’re busting through “conventional wisdom” and going against the grind. It’s something that nobody knows…until somebody tells them.

Or at least calls them out on it…well, that’s probably not the proper language – let’s stick with…lets them know about it.

Like when your friend says that their life will never be great because they don’t have money and can’t enjoy it…

But when you ask him why they won’t go make more money or find alternative routes…they come up with more excuses.

Just don’t be judgmental, it happens to everybody (you’re still “breaking through” – but just think about how much of a difference this first minute has made. You didn’t know this at first, so we can’t expect anybody else too).

Finding Your Drive

There’s the first half, now we’re ready to put everything together.

We just went through the part of holding yourself back. You’ve probably heard a few quotes that carry the same logic.

Quotes like:

“Only the Strong Survive” or “Keep Grinding”…

Quotes that are helpful in the moment, but don’t last that long. Why is that?

Because you’re fueling the wrong drive.

Don’t get me wrong, you have to make money – but is that what your main purpose is?

When you sit down and really think about why you want to start a business – is the biggest reason more money?

Probably not, I’m guessing it has something to do with a better life….

Like helping others, because who doesn’t love helping others? That great rush of endorphins is worth a million dollars – just remember to make money while you’re getting there. You’d be making sacrifices if you didn’t, putting you into the martyr column….(Something you need to avoid if you want to be successful).

I think Tony Robbins really sums this part up best:

“Success without Fulfillment is the Ultimate Failure”.

This will resonate with everybody a little differently, but the logic remains the same – You need to make money, but that’s not the only importance in life.

Using Business Psychology

And in a nutshell, that’s business psychology. I know it doesn’t sound like a lot now, but please – take some time to think about that. You’ll be surprised how much you can achieve.

There’s only one thing standing in between you and your dreams – and that’s YOU.

Think about every time you’ve told yourself you couldn’t do X because of Y.

The most common example, money.

Now think about that situation again and see if there’s any other options you could have taken.

And if you need help, here’s a common example that I’ve heard a time or two “I can’t start a business, I need the consistent income”.

Something I agree with 100%, but I guess I’ve never understood the logic. I do agree that having reliable income is important, and that’s why I think you should consider working for yourself – that’s really the best way to make sure you’ll always have reliable income – because you’re the one with control over it.

But when you stick with an employer, that could change at any minute. Maybe they close their doors, maybe they downsize, or maybe they have organizational changes – but either way, this sounds a lot more dangerous than making your own luck.

Okay, I have to do one more – because I know it’s in your head right now….”I can’t start a business because I don’t have money”.
